A beautiful market town, close to the Forest of Dean and surrounded by spectacular countryside - also known as the Gateway to the Wye Valley,  Ross on Wye has a unique charm and character of its own.  With a selection of independent retailers, restaurants and coffee shops, serving excellent food, Ross is the perfect pit-stop for any cyclist wanting to sample its delights.

The surrounding area is superb for cycling – serene country lanes through rural villages alongside field upon field, and the winding River Wye. The way to explore this area is definitely on two wheels, with a map and a sense of adventure.

Ledbury and the Malvern Hills are places to explore too. The Malverns is especially suited to mountain biking, with dozens of off-road trails and tracks, while on-road tourers can explore the picture-perfect villages and scenery of the northern Cotswolds via the beautiful gateway towns of Evesham and Broadway.

Throughout the summer months concerts are held Ross on Wye in the Bandstand.  Take along a picnic, sit by the river and listen to live music.  What a great way to spend a summer's afternoon after cycling around the country lanes.

Check the calendar for local sportives.  The Wye Tour and Wye Valley Brewery are just two that are planned around this area.

Things to do

There's no shortage of things to do in and around Ross.  Whether it's visiting art galleries, canoeing, fishing abseiling, cycling, walking or shopping - there's something for everyone. On it's doorstep there's The Forest of Dean, Symonds Yat, Goodrich Castle, Tintern Abbey, Monmouth and the Malvern Hills.  All offering a host of activities and things to do.  You certainly won't be bored!

Places to eat

One of our personal favourites is Café Eleganza.  An independent Coffee Shop, situated in the heart of the town,  serving a wonderful selection of homemade dishes.  Delicious vegetarian and Gluten free food served too served by friendly and helpful staff.  If you're cycling through this is the perfect place to refuel on wholesome, healthy food.
